Crews from the state’s electric cooperatives are mobilizing this morning across South Carolina to help restore power in areas affected by the overnight ice storm. Six of the state’s 20 electric cooperatives have additional crews working in their territories this morning.
Statewide update and summary:
- Blue Ridge Electric Cooperative in Pickens has assistance from Aiken Electric Cooperative in Aiken and Berkeley Electric Cooperative in Moncks Corner. At 9:00 a.m., 8,400 Blue Ridge consumers did not have electricity. More than 200-line workers are in the Blue Ridge service territory working to restore power this morning.
- Laurens Electric Cooperative in Laurens has assistance from Edisto Electric Cooperative in Bamberg and Palmetto Electric Cooperative in Ridgeland. At 9:30 a.m., outages at Laurens Electric totaled 3,700.
- Newberry Electric Cooperative has additional crews from Santee Electric Cooperative in Kingstree and Tri-County Electric Cooperative in St. Matthews assisting restoration efforts. A transmission failure in Newberry’s service territory disrupted power to three substations, causing a large number of outages. At 8:30 a.m., Newberry Electric reports 1,500 consumers do not have electricity.
- Fairfield Electric Cooperative in Blythewood is working with crews from Edisto Electric to restore power mostly in a zone north of Blythewood and east of Interstate 77. At 9:35 a.m., Fairfield Electric reports 866 consumers without power.
- Marlboro Electric Cooperative in Bennettsville has assistance from Horry Electric Cooperative in Conway. At 9:15 a.m., 800 consumers served by Marlboro Electric did not have electricity.
- Lynches River Electric Cooperative in Pageland has additional crews from Black River Electric Cooperative in Sumter and Pee Dee Electric Cooperative in Darlington working to restore power in that service area. At 8:15 a.m., Lynches River reports 2,200 consumers who do not have electricity.
A significant number of cooperatives experienced outages overnight. Crews at York Electric Cooperative in York, Broad River Electric Cooperative and Gaffney, Black River Electric Cooperative, and Pee Dee Electric Cooperative began working overnight to restore power in those service territories.
