Seyward Jeter of Murrells Inlet is the recipient of the 2013 WIRE Jenny Ballard Opportunity Scholarship for Women Returning to College.  Jeter is a member of Horry Electric Cooperative in Conway.

WIRE (Women Involved in Rural Electrification) is a community service organization associated with South Carolina's independent, consumer-owned electric cooperatives. The WIRE scholarship is awarded to a woman who may not have been able to attend college when she graduated from high school, but now wants to further her education. Each year WIRE awards the $2,500 one-time opportunity scholarship to an electric co-op member based on financial need and personal goals.

Jeter is a homemaker and volunteer guardian ad litem for Horry County.  She and her husband have two small children.  Jeter plans to attend the University of South Carolina and obtain a master's degree in social work.  "I want to graduate and be able to find a job helping others," said Jeter.  "I want to make a real difference in my community while also helping to provide for my family."

The WIRE Opportunity Scholarship is named for Jenny Ballard, an early leader of WIRE. She is the wife of Al Ballard, former president of the statewide association of electric cooperatives.
