(Blythewood, SC) - Summer is here.  School is out.  It's a perfect time for a trip to our nation's capital.  That's the message 46 rising high school seniors heard when they gathered together May 22nd at Fairfield Electric Cooperative.  The students will leave Saturday, June 12, for an all-expenses paid trip to Washington, D.C. courtesy of their local electric cooperatives.

During the six-day trip, South Carolina's students will visit places like Mount Vernon, the White House, Arlington Cemetery, the U.S. Supreme Court and the Smithsonian museums.  They'll also tour the U.S. Capitol and meet with our state's senators and congressmen.

The students heard all about the trip during the annual Youth Tour orientation.  They also got a briefing on how to pack, what to wear and how to behave while on the trip.

Seven chaperones, representing various co-ops across the state, will oversee the students during the weeklong trip.

Photos from the trip will be updated daily.  View them here .  You can also follow the group on Twitter .
