Journeyman Team Event: Down Neutral

Event Summary:
This event consists of repairing a down single-phase neutral conductor between an A1.1 w/ A5.1(A1 w/ A5-1) and A5.1(A5). The neutral conductor will be broken mid span with both ends lying on the ground. A new section of conductor shall be installed using an automatic sleeve and must be sagged equivalent to the primary conductor using an automatic dead-end shoe. Sag will be checked by the event judge at the conclusion of each team’s completion of the event.
Event Rules:
- Teams will have five minutes to set-up and ask the event judge questions.
- Time will start on the judges signal.
- The conductor shall be grounded on the source side of the break. All grounding procedures shall be followed. Failure to follow proper grounding procedures will result in a 10-point deduction.
- Rubber gloves shall be worn ground to ground by all climbers.
- Rubbers gloves shall be worn while handling the down conductor.
- A hoist and insulated stick shall be used to the sag the conductor at the dead-end pole (A5.1). The sag will be checked and shall be within 6” in either direction. Failure to meet the sagging requirements will result in a 2-point deduction.
- The neutral shall have no more than 1 foot of tail on the A5.1(A5) prior to calling “TIME”. Having more than 1 foot of tail will result in a two point deduction.
- Time stops when the grounds are removed, the line has been re-energized, all tools and equipment are on the ground, both climbers are below the neutral and one of the team members calls “TIME”. If “TIME” is called prematurely, a 10-point deduction will be issued.
- Judging will continue until the event site is restored to its original condition and the team has left the event site. Points can be deducted after time stops.
