Journeyman Team Event – OH Transformer Changeout

Event Summary:
This event is simulated energized and consists of changing out an overhead 10 KVA CSP pole-mounted transformer on a 40’ A1.1 (A1). All team members shall maintain a minimum approach distance of 2’ 2” to all exposed energized conductors for this event. The 2’ 2” MAD will be marked on the pole. At a minimum the neutral must be covered. A transformer gin will be provided by the SCLR for this event and WILL be mounted on the pole.
Event Rules:
- Teams will have 5 minutes to set up & ask the event judge questions.
- Time will start on the judge’s signal.
- Time stops when the transformer has been re-energized and all climbers are safely on the ground.
- The CSP transformer secondary breaker shall be opened prior to disconnecting the transformer from the primary conductor. A 10-point deduction will be assessed for this infraction.
- Tools and equipment shall always be on the provided tarp when not in use.
- A new pre-cut transformer lead and hotline clamp will be provided and shall be installed on the transformer.
- All connections shall be brushed.
- All rigging equipment will be inspected by the judge and shall not exceed its rated Working Load Limit.
- Positive control of rigging ropes shall always be maintained.
- Judging will continue while the team restores the site to its original condition.
