More than 100 co-op representatives attended an appreciation reception for Governor Nikki Haley Tuesday in Columbia. During the gathering, held just before the co-ops' annual Legislative Reception, Statewide CEO Mike Couick discussed the importance of Santee Cooper to the cooperatives. "For every dollar Santee Cooper spends, we (the cooperatives) pay 70 cents," said Couick. "It's important to us that Santee Cooper be run as a business." Couick reminded Haley that the terms of six board members are up this year, and he asked that she appoint business people to the board with broad experience.
For her part, Haley appealed to the cooperatives to help her with those appointments. "I know you are very much interested in the Santee Cooper board appointments," said Haley. "We have not decided who those people are, so bring us recommendations. Bring us those names. Understand that you have as much to add to that table as anyone else."
